To know where you're going, is to know from whence you came. To feel an asana (yoga pose) in a most detailed fashion one must understand this concept. We start at the root where our hands and feet, and in many times both, have a relationship to the earth. The marriage between the hastas (hands) and padas (feet) to the center line and the principle of the root (in Sanskrit the word is mulha) is to be aware of the intrinsic synergistic balance that both share.
As one approaches the practice of asana "awareness" is a term often used. However awareness of the hastas and padas many times is overlooked.
For instance, the feet play as important a role in handstand as the hands. Let me explain. If you spread and extend the toes while maintaining the arches of the feet extrinsic and intrinsic muscles of the feet contract. The feet are then active and muscle energy is created. Muscle energy is from the extremities back to the center line of the body, the core.
At this point let's add another element and plantar flex at the ankles and evert the feet. These actions contract the soles and gastrocemius the tibialis posterior and the perennials longus and brevis.
This course includes 10 hours of study incorporating video lectures, Chapter 1 of the book Vraaja Yoga™ The Anatomy of Sequencing, a supplemental anatomy guide, quizzes and a full Vraaja yoga practice.
